Reducing your fingerprint

Individual rows carry a "Defence" line where one exists. Four strategies do most of the work, in descending order of effectiveness:

  1. Use Tor Browser. It blocks canvas, normalises fonts, pins the time zone to UTC and letterboxes the window so every user reports the same values.
  2. Use Firefox with privacy.resistFingerprinting enabled. It covers canvas, audio, WebGL, time zone and core count in one switch, at the cost of some site breakage.
  3. Blend in rather than stand out. Skip Do Not Track, trim your language list to one common locale and leave the user agent alone. Rare settings identify you.
  4. Keep a VPN and the browser consistent. Match the browser time zone to the exit country and disable WebRTC, or the mismatches on this page give the tunnel away.

How to read this

Entropy measures how much a signal narrows you down. Every bit halves the crowd you hide in. Around 33 bits is enough to single out one person on Earth, so the total is capped there. Real trackers reach a lower effective number because signals overlap, but the ranking still shows which ones matter.

The fingerprint ID is a SHA-256 digest of the stable signals only. Each row says whether it feeds the ID or varies per session. Values that shift between page loads, like window size and network speed, are excluded so the ID stays the same when you reload.

The return visit card stores that ID in this browser's local storage, and nowhere else, to show how well the fingerprint survives across visits. That is the whole trick behind cookieless tracking. Press "Forget this record" to delete it.

Private browsing and Tor detection are heuristics, not proof. They read side effects like storage quota limits and spoofed values, so a full disk or a hardened browser profile can push them either way. The Tor verdict only becomes certain once the IP check confirms the request came from an exit node.
